Name:
Organized bocce at the Westlake Golf and Country Club shall only be played under the auspices of the Westlake Bocce Club (the “Club”), and is the only bocce club recognized by the Westlake Master Association.
Purpose of the Club:
In accordance with its Mission Statement, the Westlake Bocce Club exists to promote fellowship, encourage interest in playing the game of bocce, and enhance the skill of club players by bringing together Westlake residents in both a social and competitive environment under established rules of play.
Membership:
All residents of the Westlake Golf and Country Club are eligible to join the bocce club as individuals and participate in team play. A nominal membership fee may be assessed to cover the expenses of the Club.
The current league hours are 9-12 a.m. on Monday, and 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, plus time for setting up before and cleaning up after competition.
Fall league dates of play vary year to year. Fall league day and hours of play are: Thursdays 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Otherwise, the bocce courts are open and available to all residents and their guests during non-league hours in accordance with Westlake Master Association rules. Member residents may participate as either as team roster players or as substitutes.
Members are expected to conduct themselves properly . Abusive behavior toward league officials, referees, or other participants will not be tolerated. Anyone who refuses to comply with the rules of the Club or conducts themselves in an offensive manner shall subject themselves or their team to corrective action , up to and including expulsion from the Club.
Organization:
The Club shall be governed by a Bocce Board (the “Board”) which shall be comprised of the league officers and an Executive Committee. The officers shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. They shall be elected for a term of two years, and shall determine the time and place of elections. The executive committee shall consist of the chairpersons of the various operating committees. Composition of the executive committee may vary from time to time as appropriate. Presently, the chairpersons of the following committees comprise the executive committee: Special Events, Scheduling, Operations, Court Facilities, Rules, Communications, Court Master and Referee Supervision, Instruction, Playoffs, Traveling Team, and one (1) At-large.
Election of Officers:
The Executive Committee shall select candidates for league officer positi ons. The committee is composed of board members who are not presently officers. Elections will be held every two years at the end of the league playing season.
Duties of the Officers:
The officers shall:
Appoint all committee chairpersons and prescribe their duties;
Determine the amount of the annual assessment;
Schedule board meetings as needed. A quorum shall consist of a majority ofthe officers and committee members.
Announce the time and date for all elections;
Modify the composition of the Executive Committee as appropriate.
Duties of the President
The President shall:
Preside over all meetings and have overall supervision of the Club;
Be an ex-officio member of all committees;
Cast a deciding vote in the event of ties;
Prepare and submit an Annual Report to the Master Association when requested;
Be a signatory on all outside contracts;
Represent the club in all dealings with the Master Association.
Duties of the Vice-President
The Vice-President shall:
Assume the duties of the President in his/her absence, whether it be permanent or temporary in nature;
Assist the President in the supervision of the various committees.
Duties of the Secretary
The Secretary shall:
Record the minutes of all Board meetings and read those minutes at the following Board meeting;
Maintain a file of all league correspondence, including, but not limited to rules, contracts, by-laws, resolution of disputes, amendments, etc as appropriate;
Maintain a list of all club members in good standing.
Duties of the Treasurer
The Treasurer shall:
Keep a complete and accurate record of all of the Club’s financial dealings, including dues collection, expenses, and contract obligations;
Deposit all monies collected and disburse funds in a manner consistent with the policy of the Master Board;
Provide a financial report at all Board meetings;
Be a member of the season-ending Super Saturday committee.
Duties of the Executive Committee Chairpersons
The chairpersons shall:
Serve at the discretion of the league officers;
Be responsible for the daily operation of the Club’s activities and the behavior of its members;
Act upon and /or modify various proposals which may be presented from time to time by the committee chairpersons;
{Along with the Officers), make, modify, or otherwise alter any rules or regulations for the benefit of the Club by a majority vote. Changes must be consistent with the Club By-laws;
Appoint Club members in good standing to fill any Committee vacancy; Coordinate all fund-collection activities with the Treasurer;
Approve all fund expenditures.
These By-laws of the Westlake Bocce Club, dated December 31, 2004 and amended September 1, 2011, shall be the governing document for organized bocce at the Westlake Country Club.

The bylaws were amended on January 30, 2012, at which time the word “permanent” was deleted from the “Membership” section. This was done to accommodate those residents who might be living at Westlake as renters, rather than as owners.
